System Requirements:

Both PC (Windows 2000, XP, & Vista) and Mac/Mac Intel (OS X 10.3 and higher) computers can access the Gratis web site.  In order for the site to work properly, and to be able to listen to the audio files, you must have Quicktime installed - download it  by clicking the icon to the right.

We recommend that all users browse with Firefox as it works best with the site.  If you are having problems browsing the site or can't get the audio files to play properly, please don't hesitate to  Contact Us so we can offer further assistance.


Promotional Videos:

 Gratis Music Movie Demo:  Several of the movies, television shows, and commercials Gratis has provided music for are cut together in a 30 minute montage.

Training Videos:

The training videos should be viewed in the order they are presented here as they interelate with each other.

 Searching Music:      Learn the various ways of how to search and play music from the Gratis Music metaserver.  Search by Virtual CD, Category/Genre, and Key Words.  Sample music by playing mp3 files.

 Managing Projects:   Create and control multiple projects for fast and easy recall.  Make notes on projects.  Tag music tracks for download.

 Downloading Music:  Download full bandwidth music files.


Using the Site:

The best way to learn how to use our site, preview MP3 and download 48K WAV files, is to watch our TRAINING VIDEOS.  If you would rather have a list of instructions then read or print this page.

If you are searching by CD Title on our Search Page, please be aware that Gratis uses Virtual CDs capable of hundreds of tracks.  Check at the bottom of each page for additional track pages.

Gratis features longer than normal cues in its library in order for the user to score complete scenes.  Make sure to read the Cue Descriptions which will tell you when the cue changes and search all the way through a cue before moving on.


Previewing and Downloading Music:

  1. Click on the "Search" link in the menu at the top or bottom of the page.

  2. Enter your e-mail address and a password and click "Enter"

  3. You are now on the Gratis Music preview/download page where there are three ways to access music.

Search by Key Words:

  1. Use the Search Box to type your entry.
  2. Select the "Match" or "Contains" radial button.
  3. When using multible words use the + key between words (+means "and") or use the - key (- means
    or").  For example; search "drama + sad + danger" (meaning search cues with the words "drama" and "sad" and "danger").
  4. Click the"Search" button.
  5. The "Play Window" will open and the tracks that correspond to your search entry will be displayed.
  6. Click on the  button next to the cue you wish to preview.
  7. Click on the title of the track to see it's information.

Search by CD:

  1. Click on the "Gratis CD List" button.  If you know the CD title and wish to access it, right click in the window and select find from the menu.  Type the title of the CD.  This will locate the CD within the menu.
  2. A list of virtual CDs will be displayed.
  3. Select the CD you wish to preview.
  4. All of the tracks of that CD will appear in the "Play Window".
  5. Click on the  button next to the cue you wish to preview.
  6. Click on the title of the track to see it's information.

Search by Category:

  1. Click on any of the categories/genres in the main window.
  2. All of the tracks of that category will appear in the "Play Window".
  3. Click on the  button next to the cue you wish to preview.
  4. Click on the title of the track to see it's information.
  5. Click the Genre/Category menu to return to the main screen.
  1. Once you find what you are looking for, you can either download a low-quality MP3 version of the cue to edit with or you can download a 48K WAV file.

  1. To Download a low quality MP3, PC users right click and save target as. Mac users, option/click and save or drag the cue onto your desktop.

  1. To Download full bandwidth files:

      1. Contact us and sign our Digi-download Agreement. and you will receive a password to log in with.
      2. Create a project in the project menu by selecting the "New Project" button.
      3. Fill out the appropriate information in the New Project section.
      4. To add a track to your project, click on the button beside it in the "Play Window".  You will see the track added in the Project Menu Window.
      5. Once you have selected all of your tracks and added them to your project select the "Find Project" button.
      6. Find your project and select the "Transfer" Button next to it. You might have to scroll to the right to see the transfer button.
      7. Follow the instructions on the screen.
      8. Once the track files have been accessed from the host you can download the links by right-clicking on them.  Mac users should option-click or drag the files to their desktop.
      9. Save the link (music track) onto the hard drive of your computer.
